When I saw that a Flying Biscuit Café was coming to Norcross, Georgia, I was more than elated for many reasons. In addition to loving every dish on their menu, this new unit opened up in my neck of the woods. My wife, daughter and I recently had the pleasure of attending a preview night and from what we experienced, The Flying Biscuit in Norcross should be a resounding success.

The Flying Biscuit Café has been filling Atlanta’s bellies with the finest, freshest dishes for over 15 years. This institution is the brainchild of Delia Champion and her business partners who opened the first unit in Atlanta’s eclectic Candler Park area.

“Oh, you must be one of those people who went to our first restaurant in Candler Park years ago,” Ms. Champion told me. “Now you all had kids and moved up here -- so we followed you.”

“If I could only have lived down there in my two decades in this town,” I replied. “I love Candler Park and chances are with or without kids, I would have stayed down there.”

I probably would have gone on about how the lily white ‘burbs are incredibly cookie cutter where most folks think a trip to the Olive Garden is an original treat, so I spared the ambitious and talented restaurateur my banal rants. Instead, we ordered from our gracious waiter. For appetizers, we ordered the Loves Cakes. These treats are three black bean and cornmeal cakes topped with tomatillo salsa, sour cream, feta cheese and spears of red onion. For entrees, I had the delectable Turkey Meatloaf and Pudge. This is a meatloaf sliced, grilled and topped with a horseradish cream sauce. The “Pudge” is their own mashed potatoes. My wife had the BBQ Chicken Burrito which includes barbeque chicken, sweet onions, collard greens and cheddar cheese wrapped in a tasty tortilla. My daughter devoured the French Toast. Yes, you may order the Non-Stop Breakfast at dinner time. With fresh biscuits served in addition to their entrees, a meal at Flying Biscuit leaves you beyond satisfied.

If Turkey Meatloaf or their BBQ Chicken Burrito is not your type of dish, The Flying Biscuit has something for you. Oven Fried Chicken, Shrimp and Grits, Flat Iron Steak and Cola Glazed Salmon are just a few of the dishes that The Flying Biscuit has on the menu. If you have a taste for the café’s Non-Stop Breakfast like my daughter, dishes like the Steak and Eggs, Meggxican Wrap and the Clifton Omelette, are just a few of the morning dishes you may order any time.

I have been to other Flying Biscuit locations over the years and I have been satisfied on each visit. On a recent visit to their midtown Atlanta location, I can vouch for the Vegan BBQ Burrito. That healthy meal made me feel like running through nearby Piedmont Park.

The service and colorful atmosphere at all Flying Biscuit’s seven locations are first-rate. On the evening we visited the new Norcross restaurant, we were served quickly with hot, fresh food. If you’re in the Atlanta area, Norcross, Georgia is about 20 miles north of downtown. The Flying Biscuit Café is located at 5270 Peachtree Parkway in Suite 120 in Interlochen Village shopping center at the corner Peachtree Parkway (aka Paul Duke Parkway) and Peachtree Corners Circle.
